Want to learn more about Korean history? How about a Korean history experience at the historical sites?

The ‘Reenactment of Watch Guards Ceremony’ event held at National Treasure No.1, Sungnyemun Gate, is finally resuming since its damage from a fire incident eight years ago, in February 2008.

The watch guard ceremony is one of the most important military rites back in the Joseon Dynasty period. Bells were struck at 10:00PM and 04:00AM to signify start and end of curfews respectively, corresponding with the opening and closing of Doseongmun Gate. Watch guards on duty would then be making patrols around the gates to prevent crime or fire outbreaks.

The ‘Reenactment of Watch Guards Ceremony’ event can be seen every day, excluding Mondays, for free. Besides Seoul, a Sabi Night Travel Festival will be held this coming July 2nd and July 3rd in Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.

The event will be focusing on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the county newly designated last year, namely Gwanbuk-ri Relics and Busosanseong Fortress of Buyeo, Jeongnimsaji (Jeongnimsa Temple Site), including Gungnamji Pond and Buyeo National Museum, which will are classified into 7 themes such as nightscapes, night flowers, night roads, late-night snacks and more. During the event period, gukak performances, traditional handicraft experience, traditional clothes fitting experience, late-night markets and other variety of programs will be offered for all visitors to enjoy.

For more information on each event, please refer to the official websites for details.
